How much does a night at Appartement Moosmann cost?

In winter an apartment costs from €115.00 per night for two people, in summer from €105.00. Each additional person costs from €27.00. The Mittagsspitze Apartment is €10.00 more in each season. On top of that come a one-off final cleaning fee of €70.00 and a tourist tax of €3.00 per person and night from age 13. Higher rates apply during the Christmas holidays and over Easter. We deliberately charge per apartment rather than per head — a holiday here should stay affordable.

Is there a minimum stay?

In low season we let from two nights. During the Christmas holidays, the February school holidays and over Easter a minimum of seven nights with Saturday arrival usually applies. We are happy to fill short gaps with shorter stays — just ask.

Is breakfast included?

No. Breakfast is available on request and served in the shared common room — let us know when you book and we will tell you the price. The same goes for our food offering: original Bregenzerwald Käsknöpfle, Kaiserschmarrn or other Austrian classics, and for groups a barbecue evening in the garden.

How do I book and how do I pay?

Ideally directly with us: via the enquiry form, by phone on +43 664 42466561 (Sonja) or +43 664 3837549 (Steve), or by email. You receive a binding offer and confirm it by email. Payment is by bank transfer in advance or in cash on arrival. Alternatively you can book via Booking.com, or the Kanisfluh Apartment via Airbnb — on the portals their payment and cancellation terms apply, and payment is made online there.

What is the cancellation policy?

For direct bookings the Austrian hotel contract terms (AGBH 2006) apply: cancellation is free of charge up to three months before arrival; after that, graduated charges apply. For bookings via Airbnb the rule stored there applies: free cancellation within 24 hours of booking, non-refundable after that. On Booking.com it depends on the rate you choose: the cheaper rate is non-refundable, the flexible one can be cancelled free of charge until a few days before arrival. In every case we recommend travel cancellation insurance.

Do you speak English?

Yes. We answer enquiries in German and English, and you are welcome to call us in English too.

Seasons and getting here

4 questions
Are you open in summer as well?

Yes. We let in two seasons: in winter from early December to early April and in summer from early May to the end of October. We are closed between the seasons. We answer enquiries for the summer all year round.

How far is it to the cable car and the ski bus?

The ski bus stop is one minute's walk from the house, and the ski bus is free in winter. It takes you to the Mellau cable car in a few minutes, which leads into the Mellau-Damüls ski area with 109 km of pistes and 27 lifts. The cross-country trail and a groomed winter walking trail are directly opposite the house, and the natural toboggan run is near the village centre.

What is the Bregenzerwald Guest Card and what does it cost?

You receive the Bregenzerwald Guest Card from us free of charge if you stay at least three nights between 1 May and 31 October. It covers the region's mountain lifts, the swimming pools and all public transport in the Bregenzerwald. For families it is the single largest item they can save on.

How do I get to Mellau without a car?

By train to Dornbirn or Bregenz, then with regional bus 40 or 850 directly to Mellau. The Mellau Post stop is a few minutes' walk from the house. Getting around by public transport works remarkably well in the Bregenzerwald.

When can I arrive and when do I have to leave?

Check-in is possible daily between 15:00 and 22:00, check-out is by 10:00. If you arrive later, just let us know — we will make arrangements.

How many people fit into the house in total?

Up to ten. The house has three apartments — Kanisfluh and Mittagsspitze for up to four people each, Hangspitz for up to three — plus the Gopf Single Room for one person. Kanisfluh, Hangspitz and the single room are on the top floor, the Mittagsspitze Apartment on the ground floor. If you are coming as a group or with several families, it is best to book the whole house; then the Stube is yours alone as well.

Can I rent the whole house?

Yes, and it is the most relaxed option. Three apartments plus the single room give up to ten beds under one roof, together with the shared Stube, the garden with barbecue and four parking spaces. For family gatherings, several families and clubs we quote an overall price — just ask.

Is there parking?

Yes, four free parking spaces right by the house, with no reservation and no extra charge. There is a lockable ski room for skis, snowboards and boots, and the garage for bicycles and motorbikes.

Is there a ski room?

Yes, a lockable ski room for skis, snowboards and boots right in the house. Bicycles and motorbikes go in the garage — dry and locked.

Is there a lift?

No, there is no lift. The Mittagsspitze Apartment, however, is on the ground floor and can be reached without stairs — for anyone who is not so steady on their feet, it is the right apartment. The Kanisfluh and Hangspitz apartments and the Gopf Single Room are on the top floor and can only be reached by stairs. Mention it in your enquiry and we will tell you honestly whether it will work.

Is there air conditioning?

Yes. The Kanisfluh and Hangspitz apartments and the Gopf Single Room have air conditioning — for the few really hot summer days that happen even at 690 metres. The Mittagsspitze Apartment is on the ground floor and stays cool on its own.

Is there a washing machine?

Not in the apartments. For longer stays we are happy to do a load for you by arrangement — just ask.

Is there Wi-Fi and how fast is it?

Yes, free high-speed Wi-Fi in all units. It is explicitly suitable for video calls, and the Kanisfluh Apartment has a dedicated workspace.

Is smoking allowed?

No, all units are non-smoking — and so is the shared common room. You are welcome to smoke in the garden.

Children and pets

2 questions
Is the house suitable for families with small children?

Yes. There is a baby cot permanently in the Kanisfluh Apartment, and we provide a travel cot and high chair free of charge on request. The garden is mature and quiet. Ski kindergarten and ski school are at the top station. And should boredom ever loom: we know the outings that really work with children — from the swimming pool to places you won't find in any brochure. Just ask us.

Are pets allowed?

Yes, up to two well-behaved pets are welcome. We charge from €15.00 per animal and night. Please mention your pet in your enquiry.

Around the house

Do you offer guided hikes or bike tours?

Yes, by arrangement. Above all, though, we are true insiders for Mellau and the Bregenzerwald: we are always happy to share tour tips for biking and hiking, summer and winter — even without a guided tour. Just ask; we know which trail still has snow in June and which hut is closed on Tuesdays.

Are there barbecue evenings and Käsknöpfle?

Yes. There is a barbecue in the garden, and in the common room we will cook original Bregenzerwald Käsknöpfle, Kaiserschmarrn or other Austrian classics on request. We are happy to organise both for groups.
